Availability will vary depending on time of year and the herd members you are looking for.
Our herd of top quality registered pedigree black females are all genetically colour-tested so if you are after true blacks who will birth black babies then contact us.
We will always have a selection of breeding females available to make up a starter herd and some great genetics in the herd if you are wanting to introduce a specific genetic line to your own breeding programme.
Here at Butterley we try and mate our girls in July for June birthing the following season. This gives the mums and babies the best chance of taking advantage of our warm summers and lush grazing.
The babies (Crias) stay with their mum until around Christmas before they are weaned.
At 12 months old the males and females are separated and at around 16 months the males will be castrated. This is the best age to purchase pet or walking boys.
At Butterley Alpacas, we are passionate about building strong, healthy herds through thoughtful breeding and carefully chosen genetics. One of the ways we do this is by introducing high quality imported bloodlines, helping avoid over breeding within the UK and strengthening future generations.
Our current stud male, Estates Satin Cloud, is a multi champion breeding male imported from exceptional lineage, being sired by the renowned Snowmass Satin Reserve XX and Premier’s Adriana.
Satin enjoyed a successful show ring career in the USA before relocating to Jagarbo Alpaca in Sweden, and now joins us bringing something truly special to our breeding programme.
He is a proud, well structured male with a striking head and calm presence. His fleece is fine, dense and beautifully bright, with lovely curvature and consistency throughout. With his fine micron and true to type characteristics, Satin offers both visual appeal and outstanding fibre qualities.
Because Satin is an import, his pedigree is refreshingly different from the small pool of black stud males currently available in the UK, giving our herd owners access to valuable new genetics.
We currently have females pregnant to Satin, and some of his daughters are also available for sale. This gives new and existing herd owners the opportunity to benefit from his quality while supporting long term herd health and genetic diversity.
Owning and selling animals of known health status is really important to us .Our alpacas are grazed in bio-secure badger fenced paddocks and these paddocks are cleaned every day of the year which helps keep our animals parasite free
Whilst we try to maintain a closed herd, any purchased animals are Enferplex TB tested before moving and held in quarantine where we will test and treat accordingly for any parasites.
Any alpacas sold will come with a Vet Health Certification and Enferplex tested as required.
