Herd Health
What makes for a healthy herd?
What makes for a healthy herd?
Alpacas feel safe in numbers.
They should be allowed space to express natural behaviours.
Alpacas should have access to clean adequate grazing, fresh water and shelter from the elements.
All animals should be monitored daily to ensure they are free from pain or disease.
A healthy herd will be vaccinated annually, monitored regularly for presence of internal and external parasites, have their toe nails trimmed and be body condition scored regularly.
Alpacas also need Vitamin D supplementation throughout the year, particularly throughout the winter months.
